How Energy Psychology Works with Internal Issues
“How energy psychology works with internal issues:
a. Bringing to mind a memory, thought, or cue related to relationship difficulties . . .
b. Activates the amygdala and initiates a stress response (cortisol, adrenaline, and other stress hormones flood the system and the hippocampus goes offline).
c. BUT stimulating selected acupuncture points initiates an opposing process:
d. The alarm response is turned off, even though the memory or trigger is still present.
e. With a few repetitions, the memory or trigger no longer evokes the alarm response.
f. The hippocampus can process the current experience in concert with the prefrontal cortex.
g. This becomes the “new normal” – the internal model has been changed.
4. Acupoint tapping changes the brain in any of five ways:
a. Reducing the amygdala’s threat response.
b. Extinguishing conditioned responses.
c. Supporting hippocampus and prefrontal cortex activity.
d. Increasing the neural impact of positive self-imagery.
e. Increasing the neural impact of well-conceived suggestions."

EFT Christian Spiritual Healing Collides with the Physiological
A wonderful thoughtful Christian tapper Rev. Ronda Stone wrote me, "I think about EFT and how the Lord has given this wonderful tool to us to help cope with all the trauma in one’s life, the lack of feeling loved, and the everyday stresses that accumulate and cause the body/mind to pay the toll in sickness, disease, emotional, and physical pain.
Even though we love the Lord, we are only human and made of clay when facing trials and
difficulties. It is hard for us to put aside the difficulties and emotions without being concerned or worrying about the outcome of a diagnosis or accident.
The Lord is there for us all along, but in our human make up and propensity to worry and fret, we block Him from being the help to us that He wants to be because of the connection we already have to fear, sadness, anxiety etc. from past events."
Ronda's insight is right on and I replied to her this way, "And what you wrote is part of the spiritual explanation of EFT and the reason why we, as Christians, should APPLY tapping to all pieces and parts of our life. To lower the cortisol and adrenaline levels that God created in us that helped us escape REAL physical danger years ago (flight, fight), we need to tap today about what happened back then to undo the stress it continues to cause today for our subconscious mind. God created our hormones to react to REAL danger where we would be harmed or eaten (predators, warfare, assault, abuse)! The elevated levels of chemicals was the way God created us to "remember" life's lessons so we don't repeat our harmful mistakes. The chemicals help us to remember the danger lessons, they encode the learned memory. Think of a child touching a hot stove. He might do it once or perhaps twice, but never again! This is the same mechanism we all use, but with trauma it happens on a much grander survival scale.
Today our "danger" is rarely a true physical danger, but living with negative memories from past events literally resides in our body's cells is our present day stress level. When we were "attacked" and we ran or fought back, we "blew" off the cortisol and adrenaline. Running or fighting back clears the cortisol and adrenaline from our nervous system. Shaking after an accident appears to do the same thing. We "discharge" the trauma, so to speak.
When we "freeze", neither running or fighting back, the incidents become trauma. Most of us "freeze". We are taught not to fight back or lip off. We then hold the horrific event in our nervous system where it stagnates, stews, and skews our Godly perspective of love and safety. Our thoughts of self-doubt, rage, resentment, and hatred arise in place of love and safety God wants us to feel. These feelings foment for decades; they rarely repair themselves without some kind of emotional support. Because those emotions are so painful to live with we shift our behavior toward self-destroying activities, such as addictions (eating, porn, gambling, sex, shopping, workaholism, etc.) to distract ourselves from what we feel. Tapping "reboots" the body systems!
Humans dislike emotional pain. It's uncomfortable so we stuff it down or drown it out (addictive behaviors). Neither strategy allows the damage or pain to let go. It most often tends to compound it. Talking about it often sends the pain ever deeper into our bodies. It's the tapping, a somatic technique, that often releases it. The emotional pain went into the body's cells as a feeling; it needs to come out of our body the exact same way.
Tapping is the language both your subconscious mind and body's cells understands. It looks like a silly technique, but it works!
Dr. Peter Levine speaks of trauma this way, "The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect...heights of transformation and mastery, depends upon how we approach it" (Dr. Peter Levine, In an Unspoken Voice, How the Boy Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness, North Atlantic Books, Berkley, CA., 2010, page 37).
Everyone has trauma of one sort or another (some minor, others horrific), every single human being does, and it is personal and specific to each of us. Our approach to dealing with it is the key to whether we heal or not. God wants us healed. We can allow the pain to destroy us, or we can transform it into life lessons where we have an unique perspective in the healing to offer other hurting human beings. That lesson often is one of hope - "I will walk with you through your emotional pain because God has helped me. I know this pain intimately, and I know a technique that will help you."
So, how is the healing done? We physically need to get our elevated flight-fight hormones (Cortisol, Adrenaline, & others) lowered in our body (tapping is that tool), removing the barriers (high adrenaline, etc.that trap the memory in our body). We need the tapping to clear the cellular receptors and quiet our brain's limbic alarm system so it stops reacting to every sound, touch, and sight around us. Peace and safety comes back to live in us once again. And it is all God's created healing touch doing the work. 1 Peter 3:10-11, 2 Thessalonians 3:16, James 3:17
The hormones God created to keep us safe often go awry during trauma (someone's mistake or sin). They stay chronically elevated as our subconscious mind plays the trauma over and over again repetitively ("movie" in our head) throughout our present day, everyday, behind the scenes of our conscious mind (we may not even know the memory is still running). This is our subconscious mind reminding you remember never to get into that situation again. This is the way your mind tries to keep you safe.
That "movie" wears us down emotionally and physically because our bodies weren't designed to live well with elevated levels of stress hormones. And our own personal trauma reactions, often self-destroying behaviors mentioned above, compound life's problems. Disease ensues eventually.
What is one of God's answers to these problems? Tapping!
EFT most often neutralizes our reaction to the originating trauma, allowing God now to free us from the impact of those traumatic memories. The fog that lived between you and Him dissipates. You see Him for Who He is. You can now step into that relationship you always desired with Him. He's always been there, but the emotional fog, and your behavioral reactions to it, has kept you from fellowship with Him! This healing becomes real to you on all levels - emotional, spiritual, mental, and often physical. Romans 8:6.
Seriously consider starting your tapping journey today! Let Him renew your mind! God is waiting for you with open arms!

Just Tap!
Awhile ago some long time EFT practitioner accused me of tapping too much.
I took that to heart....for a short while, wondering if there was something wrong with just tapping to tap.
Now, I'm an indefatigable tapper, as are many other Christians I know!
Why? If, as the research now shows, an hour of tapping just to tap lowers cortisol levels 24% at least, why not tap?
All of us could use lower cortisol levels! We know high cortisol is NOT a good thing. It hardens our arteries, wears out our heart, causes tons of diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
Tapping isn't just lowering cortisol though. It also lowers many of the other chemicals in our bodies that contribute to these same above problems.
I tap when I pray, I tap when I do my devotions, I tap in church, I tap while I drive, I tap while I watch TV or a movie, I tap while I walk. I just tap.
God instilled in us an amazing healing capacity, so why not use it? If God put that mechanism in there, He must have done so to help us.
Join me! Tap!

Christian EFT Tapping Tips
Did you know studies show one hour of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT, tapping) drop your cortisol level 24%?
That is a huge drop. Rarely does any technique do this as quickly and as effectively as EFT!
So, that all said, have you considered tapping while watching a movie, listening to a sermon, or during prayer?
If not, I suggest you do consider it. While EFT is most effective when you tune into the "problem" i.e. feeling about some event, non-thinking tapping still should drop your cortisol level, raising your DHEA level, because your body understands what you are doing. It's all in the neurophysiology!
DHEA level is what keeps your immune system healthy. Cells go into rest and repair when the DHEA level is up and the cortisol, or stress hormone, is down.
I instruct all my clients to tap as much and as often as they can. We are all under way too much stress in this crazy, fast paced world.
EFT is not a substitute for medical care. Take care of your own emotional and physical health.
Blessings in Christ!

Example of EFT Used for First Aid
Example of EFT when used a First Aid tool:
3 days ago Brad missed a step, falling on his right hip on the concrete sidewalk. He looked at me stunned. As he assessed his possible injuries, he seemed to be ok.
I assisted him to get up and off we went for our hour walk.
However, I told him to tap - on what he felt NOW about hitting the cement with a thud. He complied, tapping on his knee, his hip and shoulder which hurt and his EMOTIONS of embarrassment, fear and stupidity for missing the step for probably about 10 minutes as we walked. He tapped longer than I would have and it was probably to his benefit!
This man is 70 years old.
I have asked him every morning subsequently to the sidewalk collision how he felt.
His answer is the same - no pain, no residual discomfort EXCEPT for the "fabric burn" on his knew which he DIDN'T tap specifically about. This is why we need to tap on every detail of an incident.
Within an hour after he tapped he told me 90% of the discomfort was gone!
Now, isn't that amazing! Who hits the concrete and doesn't hurt?
How did tapping help?
When we tap, we neutralize the fear, embarrassment, pain, etc. lowering the cortisol, allowing the DHEA level to rise so the body can heal whatever was injured.
When we obsess about any thought/injury/disease, we continue to run UP the stress hormone cortisol which depresses the healing hormone DHEA.
Tap please on everything! God has given us a wonderful tool, IF we only use it!
Remember, EFT is not to be used as a substitute for sound medical or psychological care. Contact your own personal physician when appropriate to care for yourself.

Cellular Memory & EFT
Every negative memory you have ever experienced (and the good ones, too, but they aren't the problem) are stored in the cells of your body, wreaking havoc, injuring them.
As these negative memories raise your cortisol level & your DHEA level drops, interrupting your healing process the way God created it to heal.
Physical homeostasis is maintained through a high DHEA level and a low cortisol level.
So how do you obtain a low cortisol level, alowing the DHEA to rise? Christian EFT tapping is one of the best processes to accomplish this.
Remember, EFT is not a substitute for medical or psychological care, so please contact your doctor for your physical needs.

Stress and EFT
Our invaluable fight-or-flight
system is regulated by the HPA axis which refers to three organs: the hypothalamus, the pituitary, and the
adrenal glands. This is our body’s way of coping with stress. The pituitary gland
and the hypothalamus are located within the limbic brain, and the adrenal
glands sit atop the kidneys. When the amygdala (located in the old, reptilian
brain, e.g. our fear/alarm center) perceives an immediate threat, rather than
sending the signal along to the neofrontal cortex (our conscious brain) for
logical processing, the HPA axis releases stress hormones – cortisol and
adrenaline – into the bloodstream. These chemicals induce quick energy, raise
our heart rate, direct blood away from digestion and other less-essential
bodily functions, and reroute blood to our extremities and muscles so we’re
physically equipped to fight or run. The advantages offered by the rapid
response of our HPA axis are clear. We often don’t have time to think our way
out of a dangerous situation – we instead need to act immediately and our
primitive brain does just that for us before we have time to consider and
process all the variables or implications involved.
In times of danger, this chemical
mix is necessary to help us fight or run; however we can also get locked into a
state of chronic stress when the adrenal glands don’t receive a signal to stop
producing these hormones which are designed solely for limited application.
Unlike acute stress which serves a positive purpose in getting us out of danger
quickly, chronic stress is very destructive to our health. Long-term exposure
to stress has truly horrific consequences for our bodies.
Among other things, chronic stress
increases the damaging effects of free radicals in the neurons of the
hippocampus, causing damage to the mitochondria. The hippocampi neurons
themselves die from the damage, making creative learning nearly impossible. The
mind/brain is now out of balance, causing us to feel paralyzed. We cannot think
or feel appropriately, nor can we conjure up solutions to get us out of the rut
we now feel trapped in. Our adrenal glands become exhausted, causing us to feel
drained and worn out.
This overuse of stress hormones
keeps us stuck where we are as we simply cannot learn from old experiences and
move ourselves forward into new ones when caught in this cycle. The repetitive
nature of this stress wiring instead leaves us stranded right where we are,
going nowhere, and mired in the past.
This is where Emotional Freedom
Techniques (EFT, tapping) can play a vital role.
In order to protect ourselves from
long-term, chronic stress damage to our bodies, we must reset the hippocampal
rhythm. For decades, scientists wondered what actually controlled the cortisol
output in the adrenal glands during stress. Most researchers were surprised
when they determined the hippocampus was the adrenal glands master controller,
and also its own hangman – as it turns out that high levels of cortisol
actually damage the hippocampus, yet the hippocampus controls the amount of cortisol
released by the adrenal glands during stressful periods!
When infants and children are
traumatized in early life, the hippocampus becomes sensitized to increased
cortisol. In fact, cortisol levels are often programmed into children in their
very early years. As children become more and more stressed as they grow older,
more and more cortisol is pumped out of their adrenal glands to deal with this
ever-elevating levels of stress. As the cortisol levels rise, the hippocampal
mitrochondrial neurons die off due to free radical damage, leaving the child
with less cortisol control, less memory, less reserves to deal with future
stress, and little to no creativity as to how they might proactively address
distressing situations and resolve the problems they’re facing.
So…how can we learn to lower these
hippocampal set points?
Using a stress-relieving modality
like EFT is a step in the right direction. EFT lowers cortisol levels. One
study alone has shown that one hour of tapping drops cortisol levels 24% (Church, Yount, & Brooks, 2012). That’s huge in contending with this chronic
stress loop which results in our minds and bodies being awash in cortisol.
EFT can reset these cortisol or
“circadian” rhythms within approximately 3-6 months of establishing regular,
routine tapping. Our bodies will reregulate themselves -- if we give them some
help.
As we tap, EFT releases the
hippocampus and the amygdala triggers. The tapping signals to these brain
structures that we are safe. When we tap and recall the negative events or
memories in our life, we lower the cortisol around the event, thus informing
our subconscious that the witnessed or felt event is no longer happening in the
present tense, nor does the event any longer have control over us. We simply
neutralize the sensory information that was previously driving our unwanted
behaviors and stress.
I invite you to give EFT a try.
Attending EFT Level 1 & 2 classes is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in
the understanding of how EFT actually works, and will provide you with a bevy

EFT & Cortisol
Why does excitement in our lives make us feel alive as
humans? What causes the
buzz we feel when we are participating in stressful things in our lives?
The answer to both questions is learned stress hormones. Adrenaline,
Cortisol, Norepinephrine are the 3 major stress hormones in our lives that are
triggered by our limbic brain.
So, how does all of this connect together, giving us an
understanding of how this impacts our lives today?
Our limbic system, comprised of Thalamus, Hypothalamus, Cingulate
gyrus, Amygdala, Hippocampus & Basal Ganglia, was created by God to keep us
safe from predators and other bodily threats. If a loud, unexplained noise
occurs, the hypothalamus, a small area in the base of your brain, sends an
alarm through the body via intricate system of nerve and hormonal signals,
prompting the adrenal glands, sitting on top the kidneys, to release a flood of
hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. The flight, freeze or flight
mechanism has just been activated, keeping us alert and aroused, watching out
for danger. Heart rate
increases, blood pressure is elevated, glucose to the tissues is released,
blood leaves the neo-cortex for the larger muscles in the legs in case flight
is necessary, digestion is interrupted (no time to eat now!), immune system
literally takes a hit, suppressing it, sex and growth are out of the question
at the moment, as survival is utmost in the body’s mind. Estrogen,
testosterone, & the neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, are also
involved in this struggle to a lesser extent. All
non-essential bodily functions cease until the situation resolves.
This
survival mechanism was implanted only for short-term use. The limbic fight,
flight, or freeze is activated, problem gets resolved, and the stress hormones
return to normal levels, dropping the heart rate & glucose levels back to
normal. Sometimes it takes days for the stress levels to fall back to normal
levels, especially when the body has chronic stress.
DHEA
levels are restored from their depressed levels for more bodily repair and
growth, allowing immune system to take over maintaining good health. Now, time
has come to think about food and sex! The
body has returned to a relaxed state.
A
problem remains today; however, in that we humans tend to remain in this high
state of alert because of the high functioning lifestyles we lead, many times
by choice. We actually become addicted to the elevated stress levels, leaving
us feeling sad and uncomfortable when we begin to slow down for a short period
of time. Once accustomed to high stress levels, the subconscious tends to want
to keep us there. It has become our standard MO. In fact, the subconscious will
even put us in situations to provoke an increased stress level, keeping the
hormones & glucose at higher levels. It truly is addicted to the chemicals!
We may
feel relaxed, but most times we continue nearly constantly in a high beta brain
wave state. It’s the state of modern life. Unfortunately, it is killing us -
literally, killing us. Our bodies weren’t built for long term limbic activation. Continuous high levels of cortisol are
known to cause huge physical issues, including increased abdominal fat, weight
gain, obesity, memory impairment, heart disease, etc. Metabolic syndrome, with its illness
list, is caused by these huge glucose level increases, necessitating activation
of the pancreas to pump out extra insulin to deal with it. This introduces diabetes, more heart
disease, & stroke. The depression of the immune system is a gigantic issue,
as it opens us up to every infectious disease we encounter, including just that
continuous cascade of one viral cold after another, that chain of unending
illness that sap our strength & endurance, giving our employer fits because
we need sick day after sick day. Because
of the decrease in immune function and the lack of DHEA to promote growth, we
open ourselves up to other illness, such as cancer.
Since
most of us no longer face true physically life threatening situations, the
threats are really just “paper tigers” – they are all in our mind. Because of
the physiology of the brain, particularly the limbic system, our mind doesn’t
know the difference between a real physical threat and the one we create in our
own imagination. Case in point: The body treats worry just the same as it
treats something really happening. Worrying about the boss firing us or the
boss actually firing us will trigger the exact same chemical release in our
bodies. Each situation appears to be the same to our mind during our thinking
and feeling process. The limbic system doesn’t differentiate between perceived
and real situations. Worry is stress, as we all know. That same worry will
break down our bodies, causing physical illnesses.
So,
how do we solve this problem? There are many true “relaxation” techniques out
there, including meditation. Often times, when we feel relaxed, we actually
aren’t relaxed at all.
Here
is where Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) excels. When employed regularly,
EFT will cut through this stress and worry, taking us back to a state of
relaxation on a daily basis, allowing us to short circuit this flight or fight
mechanism implanted in us. The neural networks are reconfigured. We unlearn the
cognitive patterns of our earlier years, breaking down those destructive habits
that keep us locked into those stressful states, whatever they may be.
EFT is
easy to learn and it takes much less time than meditation. In our hurry up
world, we all look for shortcuts. EFT is one, but it is a good, healthy
shortcut.
I can
also teach you other quick stress reduction techniques, if that is of interest.
There are many other ones out there.

Relaxation and EFT
We all know our cortisol levels are much too high. We don't have enough time in the day to sit down and clear our minds. Life is just plain hectic.
Try this technique:
Teach yourself to relax your tongue on the floor of your mouth as much of the day as you possibly can.
Why? You engage the vagal nerve system, parasympathetic part of your autonomic nervous system, the part of your nervous system that relaxes you.
The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) revs you up to make you move, think, and do. The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) relaxes you, quiets you down, allowing your internal batteries to recharge.
All of this is mixed up with specific neurochemicals, each doing their own thing, in attempt to keep you healthy.
You must relax to keep yourself healthy. Your body cannot repair itself when the SNS is on full speed ahead.
Relaxing your tongue on the floor of your mouth engages the PNS.
If you get yourself into a tight spot, relax your tongue. This signals your PNS that you have it all under control. It puts the blood back into the pre-frontal cortex where you do your thinking, instead of having that blood in your large muscle groups because your SNS thinks you must defend yourself.
Give it a try. It's hard to get angry with your tongue on the floor of your mouth!
And then, if you can, tap on your favorite tapping spot with your tongue relaxed.
EFT is not a substitute for medical care. Contact your medical provider if you have a medical emergency.
Blessings!

EFT is SO Effective
Hi all,
I wanted to share a little story with all you readers, as I'm hoping to show you that persistence with tapping does indeed pay off.
I have been tapping regularly and aggressively for a couple of years now, trying to clear all of my childhood emotional and verbal abuse issues. They are heavy, deep, and, until recently, pretty distressing, running my life from the subconscious level. I had no idea how much these childhood issues were driving my adult issues. It was huge!
Within the past couple of days, small events happened. I will relate one of them for you. For many of you, I suspect, you will wonder why I'm bothering to bring this up. What I need you to understand is this: small things would trigger me big time. I'd have some huge emotional blow-up over pretty much nothing.
Yesterday, accidentally, I dumped a 1/2 cup of coffee all over the floor. 4 years ago, I would have gone ballistic, calling myself all kinds of names, angry at the incident, and yelling at everyone around me. Immature behavior? You bet! Over the edge for a spill? You bet! Now, I understand where that behavior came from - that is how my Dad reacted when one of us kids spilled a glass of milk at dinner. I thought this was how everyone reacted to incidents. He went crazy about the mess! I learned the lesson so well. He called us all kinds of names, like klutz, idiot, etc. I simply took up, calling myself the same names, where he left off.
Well, low & behold, after I cleaned up the big puddle of coffee, I realized my only reaction was, "poop"! No swearing. No yelling. No calling myself names. I just cleaned it up with an "oh, well, stuff happens" attitude, like "normal" people do! Success! Those old, negative, neural pathways have been severed and new, less reactive ones, built up. Praise God! The cognitive learning has been undone! Indeed, tapping has changed my physiology!
I like this new me better. I'm more in control. Spilled coffee is not worth raising my cortisol level for 2 days! Elevated cortisol levels and blood pressure do not serve my physical needs.
God can through EFT change behaviors that I have tried all my life to change! EFT gave me the boost to accomplish what my conscious mind could not do alone! I'm so grateful to God for this precious gift, literally of life.
P.S. The friend who witnessed this incident added this comment later, "Not only did you only say "poop" or "darn"...something totally tame. The next thing you said was, 'Well, at least I got to drink the first half cup of coffee!'
A beautiful example! Great job!" Sarah
