Why Christians Can Use EFT Tapping!

This article succinctly says what I have tried to explain in the 5 EFT for Christians books I have written.

1). Chinese medicine and Chinese religion are 2 different things, just as Western Medicine and any western religious beliefs are completely different. Usually, when we show up in an ER, we don't ask the trauma physician if he or she is a Christian, we are just grateful for their help!

2). As a Practitioner in EFT when working with a client who has physical issues, our first question is, "have you seen a doctor?" There is definitely a place for both Eastern and Western medicine. If I have a gangrene gallbladder, probably caused by my reaction to abuse, where I carry around rage, anger, hatred, I'm not necessarily going to try to "cure" it with tapping. I want a competent surgeon to remove it before it bursts and I become septic. Then I will want to deal with the negative emotions that got me in the fix to begin with so something else physical doesn't go haywire!

3). Being a history buff, I agree with this author that not all early Western medicine researchers, such as William Harvey, Lister, Salk, etc. were Christians. They might have been. Who cares? Does that mean I reject all their findings? Of course, I don't. Their religious beliefs as they researched how God put together the human body has absolutely no bearing on what they personally believed about the Creator Himself!

4). Research surely now seems to show that there is a direct relationship between our emotions and our physical health. God is in the healing business. Jesus performed many miracles, as did His apostles. Miracles still happen today. Healing is God's purview, not satan's. satan never healed anyone! So, like the instructions to Apostle Peter in Acts, eat sacrificed meat, it doesn't matter what the original intent or belief system was, God blesses it and sanctions for our good because He created it for our wellbeing.

Dr. Joe Dispenza Discussing Physiology of EFT

My take-away on this wonderful video interview with Dr. Joe Dispenza: This explains WHY tapping on negative past events is the KEY to change. It's all physiology!
We tap on the emotions that keep us stuck to changing the future.
Events are lodged in implicit memories (there is something called explicit memories, too) where the events are STORED in our subconscious mind & our life is run from there.
EFT produces the alpha/theta brains waves, as it does in meditation. This is where we heal and CHANGE.
In reality past events are irrelevant (they are PAST), but it's the emotions attached to them that keep us stuck. So past events are what we tap on because they are the VEHICLE to get us to the feelings that need changed.
"Dark Night of the Soul" is God allowing those circumstances and giving us an opportunity to change.
Emotions ARE the end product of life events, thus one of the EFT techniques is "future tapping." At about 42 minutes, Joe plows into meditation. We use EFT not meditation (you can if you choose to use that), but meditation is a similar process to tapping because we are PAYING ATTENTION to thoughts and body feelings (this is mindfulness).
Life change happens when we MAKE the effort to actually tap. Not thinking about tapping or consider tapping, but tapping! This is probably the "difficult" part of the EFT tapping process - doing it! Once you have a tapping habit instilled, it does pretty much become effortless!
In this interview, insert God for Joe's "universe" and think Biblically as Dispenza talks!
Science seems to prove WHY EFT actually works! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for this opportunity to change our life to more reflect You and who You want us to be.

Remember please! EFT is not a substitute for good medical care, so please consult your own personal physician when you need medical or psychological help!

Can Christians Use EFT Tapping?

Interesting article that addresses whether or not we Christians can use acupuncture. EFT is considered "needle-less acupuncture" because we tap on the acupressure points, not needle them.
I think this article succinctly says what I have tried to explain in the 5 EFT for Christians books I have written.

Tapping and More Epigenetics!

To me, this Epigenetic article illustrates the VERY BEST REASON we, especially us women, should be tapping! Women do the bulk of the care-giving.

If epigenetics is true, and I suspect it is, we MUST clear our emotional junk rather than send it further down our generational lines to our grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.

In Christianity, we tout our charitable endeavors! What better charity could we do for mankind overall, and our families in particular, than use tapping to let our emotional trauma go, allowing forgiveness to enter, and clear our DNA of those genetic tags where the trauma has attached itself.

Even if you are past the childbearing age, tapping will still help clear your on-going genetic lines!

What a gift you have to give to your family! A wonderful life-giving on-going gift. Give children 2 things in life and nothing can stop them! What are those 2 things? JESUS & EFT!!!

Remember, EFT is NOT a substitute for medical care, so please contact your own personal physician if you have emotional or physical issues before starting EFT.

Complex PTSD & EFT Tapping

While this article doesn't advocate EFT tapping, this is exactly what we use tapping to resolve emotionally.
EFT, when done well and proficiently, pulls the emotional content out of our hurtful memories. Once the emotional pain has settled, we can begin to process what the trauma means to us. Often we come to realize the emotional events have nothing personally to do with us, but are the painful emotional reactions of others toward us.
Does the resolution happen overnight?
No, it takes time like all healing! But persistence will pay off. Beginning to tap tomorrow doesn't help today, but starting today will most probably help you feel more emotionally stable this time next year!
Are you ready to begin using EFT? Go to my EFTforChristians.com webpage & request the free resources I have available for you there.

Remember, EFT tapping is NOT a substitute for good personal medical or psychological care, so contact your own personal physicians before using EFT.

Epigenetics and Tapping

Epigenetics - have you ever heard the term? I wrote a a chapter on "Generational Curses" in the EFT for Christians book, Tapping into God's Peace & Joy, but it appears there is so much more going on here around "generational trauma". Exodus 34:6-7 is one set of the "sins of the father's" verses, among others. These incidents may not be "sins" per say, but trauma experienced decades or centuries ago by a family member.

Don't confuse these ideas with "past lives" as that is not what this is or what I am talking about here. There are studies, few done on humans because we live way longer than mice and nematodes (!) that show the memories live in the body anywhere from 3 to 14 generations after an ancestor experiences an untoward event IF the trauma hasn't been processed. Most of these studies looked at how traumas are transferred via male sperm because sperm are easier to study than female ovum. These types of traumas can be processed with EFT tapping and Matrix Reimprinting, the other EFT technique many of us use.
Bottom line here is some of our personal emotional issues simply may not even be our own, but DNA/RNA markers carried on our genes, as an unpleasant gift from one of forefathers or foremothers. The DNA doesn't change, but it does get a "marker" attached to it.
And using EFT tapping to thoroughly process the negative events/memories/feeling you experience could well save countless future generations the PAIN YOU ARE FEELING TODAY.

Give your kids a gift - tap and let the old stuff go!!
EFT is not a substitute for medical care, so please consult your physician first before using tapping on any medical or psychological condition.

"Resistance" to Tapping: What is That All About?

Emotional healing is personal to each of us.

How we do life is all based on what we learned as youngsters. If our family understood emotions, listened to each other express them, and reacted in an appropriate way, we often live our adult lives in a more comfortable emotional way.

When a child has seen much emotional abuse, learning to express oneself as an adult is often more difficult. It is a learned behavior.

There are times when we wish or think we are ready to heal, but doing so just plain doesn't come easily.

Why?

The youngster inside us doesn't feel it is safe to confront or access earlier feelings now because it wasn't safe to do so back in childhood. Our feelings today directly reflect how we felt decades ago.

Tapping is all about feeling safe.

Sometimes during talk therapy, and I know this from personal experience, discussing how we feel now about something decades ago often brings a torrent of tears, anger, and sadness. It just plain feels safer NOT to discuss any of this. Leaving it buried deep within our psyche seems to be a more prudent course of action, however, doing that usually doesn't bring healing.

When a client doesn't seem ready to change, we call this "resistance" in the EFT trade. Sometimes it sounds like we are blaming the client for not wanting to get emotionally better.

In reality most of the time it has to do with safety and feeling ok to discuss, tap on, and let go of our old emotional baggage that just isn't allowing us to move forward as our Lord would have us do.

It isn't satan holding us back, it is our own stored stuff. And it may not be our fault we aren't ready to heal now. It is our responsibility to try to work on it though, as emotional healing usually brings us closer to our Lord.

EFT is one of the best techniques and the closest thing to a safety net that is known today. When we access a memory that makes us uncomfortable, tapping most often will settle down the feelings that come up around it. A few tapping rounds usually does the trick.

Don't beat yourself up if there are memories you aren't quite ready to tackle alone with tapping yet. You can also email me to obtain a referral to a Christian EFT Practitioner who can walk beside you as you do tap on these memories.
Andy Hunt's article is all about feeling safe during tapping in order for us to access and let the emotional content of old memories go back to the Cross where they belong.
God bless your healing!

Why Tap at All?

I’m often asked why we need to tap  when we’ve lived in abusive situations. Won't we just forget the old memories eventually, or just come to accept them?

My answer is always, "No! Because of the way God put our physical body together with its emotional underpinnings, we often need to find a technique that calms not only the emotional impact of the abuse, but also calms the body, too, so it can heal."

Our body continues to react to what it "thought" the abuse meant when it happened. Most abuse occurs in childhood, and as children, we believe the world revolves around us, our wants, needs, and desires. We lack the maturity to see the entire picture of what was happening around us in society, church, and our family.

While the originating abuse was real, the life perceptions we gain over the ensuing years & decades are often faulty because our safety system built into our limbic system by God Himself goes awry. The abuse often is seen personally as something about who we are or what our worth is as a human being. Shame creeps into the scene sending our future actions off in a direction they weren't meant to go because we want to feel safe in our emotional and personal environment.

When that perceptual lens gets clouded early in life, like cataracts, surgery is needed to clear that damaged lens!  Tapping is emotional cataract surgery! It clears our life perspectives not only on an emotional level, but often on spiritual and physical levels, too.

Consider taking a tapping class so you can learn all the nuances of effective tapping. It might be the best education you will ever receive.

Love and Forgiveness Wrapped up in EFT

I have stated repeatedly that EFT always, always goes to forgiveness (when practiced effectively and frequently).

Forgiveness is the pardoning others unconditionally for offenses done to us, either real or perceived. Forgiveness is the highest form of unconditional love.  It is exactly what Jesus gave us when He went to the Cross at Calvary in our stead (John 3:16).  He restores us into the eternal friendship circle with the Trinity.

Proverbs 17:9 (TPT) says it this way, “Love overlooks the mistakes of others,
but dwelling on the failures of others devastates friendships.”

As I was recently reading 1 Corinthians 13 in my new Passion Translation I was struck at how some of these verses read in comparison to other older translations.

Verses 4 through 8a read like this: “Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense. Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up. Love never stops loving.”  These verses sound so much more down to earth than the usual translations that I read. To me it strikes more solidly at the heart of the practical approach and meaning of what forgiveness and love actually look like, as one ponders HOW to actually carry them out.

However, the verse that really stuck out in 1 Corinthians 13 to me was verse 11 that says in TPT, “When I was a child, I spoke about childish matters, for I saw things like a child and reasoned like a child. But the day came when I matured, and I set aside my childish ways.” While this reads similarly to the NIV version, here is the part that highlighted this verse for me.

The NIV verse says, “When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” That is all well and good, but simply become mature in age alone doesn’t always, or even usually, get us to spiritual maturity.
When we have childhood trauma there are many things going on in our bodies, minds, souls, and our spirit. Some beliefs we are aware of, other things we have no idea even exist. Because God implanted in us at birth the ability for our subconscious mind to conveniently “forget” our deep emotional pain, we may never come to that adult love and forgiveness place we where we want to be.

In that “forgetting” God instilled a mechanism that affords us safety because the memories may be too harsh, damaging, disquieting, etc. He knew when He created us that sin would enter the world through Adam and Eve. He knew sinful humans would do unspeakable things to each other. These were things that would literally kill us if we were able to remember them. Witnessing these inexpressible moments or having the same unimaginable situations happen to us personally can often cause a break in our psyche. We simply cannot handle emotionally what has happened, so our mind breaks off those pieces of memory and hides them from us.

I’ve written extensively about how those hidden unbelievable memories often cause a state of chronic physical stress which then leads to diseases. Our bodies cannot handle long term lingering stressful memories. Remember, everything we have ever seen or heard or experienced is retained within our subconscious mind. It is all stored there and running as an active, present day memory whether we consciously remember it or not.

Verse 11 talks about, “setting aside my childish ways” but what exactly might that mean in real life? Does it mean you suddenly use good table manners? Or could it mean you use proper speech and grammar? Perhaps you realize that carousing all weekends in a bar, drinking your way until dawn doesn’t make Monday morning work out so well? This list is endless as regards habits we no longer do as we age.

I’m thinking of a different spin on verse 11. As we mature in both age and behavior, how do we now look back decades on old memories and loosen old hurtful memories, allowing them to move toward forgiveness and loving the perpetrator.

How is that actually done? Frankly, neither Scripture nor too many preachers that I have heard seem to be able to tell us precisely HOW to accomplish this. Often the priest or pastor simply espouses that we should forgive because Christ Himself forgave us.

Great idea, pastor, but you don’t understand the level of pain, hurt, hate, and rage I feel toward that person who did that to me! Give me a tool to do that forgiving and loving you talk about!

God has now given us that tool. It is too bad not many pastors know about this technique just yet, but a time will come when all will know about Emotional Freedom Techniques.

My question to you is this: What have you done with your anger, resentment, rage, and hatred about incidents and things that happened to you over the past decades?

Do they still run your life? Do you think about them daily, or multiple times a day? Do you make future life decisions based on how those early memories play in your mind? Do you fear the future because of the past?

1 John 4:18 tells us perfect love casts out fear. Love and fear cannot co-exist. Either one is in control or the other is. In your life which reigns supreme?

Love is bound up in forgiveness. When forgiveness comes to the forefront, fear no longer stand.

I’ve personally had many emotional memories to tap about over the past decade, so my challenge to you is:  Are you ready to be that mature Christian Apostle Paul talks about in 1 Corinthians 13? Are you ready to put aside your childish insecurities and fears? Are you ready to meet those old memories head-on, neutralizing their emotional content so you can love others unconditionally thereby freeing yourself from the chronic physical and emotional stress.

God understood that forgiveness is maturity in Christ that exhibits the Fruit of the Spirit in everyday living is NOT for the person you forgive. It is for YOU! You personally are the one who benefits. The other person may never know you have forgiven them.

When we forgive, God often releases the physical aspects we’ve held for years in our bodies around the unforgiveness. This is often our physical healing in addition to our emotional and spiritual healing.

If you are ready to completely heal, experiencing God’s love, joy, and peace in your life, consider learning to tap.

It’s easy to learn. It’s a self-help tool once you master its methodology. And it is for us Christians to use because it is all based in God’s created healing physiology.

Outcomes

EFT is an amazing tool to allow us to stop carrying emotional loads that we need to simply let go and let God handle.

Often we are too vested in other peoples' outcomes when those outcomes aren't up to us.

Tapping helps us divest ourselves of holding ourselves responsible for other peoples' actions, thoughts and habitual behaviors.

Let God handle it. Tap!

God Heals in Different Ways

God heals in different ways.

We humans sometimes want Him to do things differently, but He knows us as a complete being. God created us in an integrated manner - body, soul, mind, and spirit.

Quite often as I do teaching and ministering with EFT, I hear from Christians that they have gone to the altar for prayer very often, but still the emotional pain persists. Frustration has now set in and sometimes their faith begins to waver.

I'm all about prayer, and I highly encourage it, especially when coupled with tapping.

But as we ponder what tapping & prayer is on a spiritual level, let's consider a thought:

What if a pastor feels illness is only a spiritual problem, and he tells his congregants to have more faith, worship more, pray more, etc? Illnesses can definitely have a spiritual component. Scripture is full of examples.

But what IF the congregant's issue is more emotional? What IF that person being counseled had parents that divorced young, or he witnessed his brother killed, or she was abused at a young age, or the mother had a mental illness?

Asking someone with an emotionally charged childhood to pray more and have more faith frankly isn't always helpful. The science of how their brain is wired sometimes precludes them from doing those exact spiritual exercises.

While prayer, worship & faith help us cope, there most likely is more going on underneath emotionally for the parishioner. This is where EFT, in addition to all of the above things mentioned, comes in extremely handy!

The emotional piece is affecting the physical piece that affects the spiritual piece that ends up making us a big life mess! It's all intertwined.

For EFT, there's something about the actual tapping physically that often integrates it all. Our physical body cellular-ly holds the emotions. Too many negative emotions makes us sick. When we feel physically bad, it affects our spiritual well being & our emotional composure.

Tapping often relieves the emotional turmoil which heals us physically whereby we give glory to our God for the healing which then brings us spiritually closer to Him in relationship.

We see our God as a God of unity - all His models show unity. Church, family, health, etc.

Tapping is a tool to help us get there on so very many levels.

It truly is an amazing God created tool for healing!

Subconscious Memory and Tapping

Joe Dispenza says it better than I do, "What most people don't know is that when they think about a highly charged emotional experience, we make the brain fire in the EXACT same sequences and patterns as before; we are firing and wiring their brains to the past by reinforcing those circuits into ever more hardwired networks. We also duplicate the same chemicals in the brain and body (in varying degrees) as if we are experiencing the event again in THAT moment.

It is this unconscious (or subconscious - Freud used these words interchangeably) repetition that trains the body to remember that emotional state, equal or better than the conscious mind does. When the body IS the mind - that's called a habit.

Think about that: 5 percent of the mind is conscious (some put that number at less than 1-2%), struggling against the 95% that is running subconscious AUTOMATIC (emotional) programs. We've memorized a set of behaviors so well that we have become automatic, habitual body-mind.

So, a person may CONSCIOUSLY want to be happy, healthy or free, but the experience of hosting 20 (or 30-40) years of suffering and the repeated cycling of those (neuro)chemicals of pain and pity have subconsciously conditioned the body to be in a (negative) habitual state. We are no longer aware of what we are thinking, doing, or feeling.

And when the 5% that is conscious is going (upstream) against the 95% that is running the subconscious automatic programs, the 95% is so reflexive that it only take one STRAY thought or a single (sensory, mostly) stimulus from the environment to turn on the automatic programs AGAIN. Then we're back to the same old, same old - thinking the same (negative, toxic) thoughts, performing the same actions, but expecting something different to happen in our lives.

When we try to regain control, this is when the body signals the brain to begin talking us out of our conscious goals (self-sabotage). Our internal chatter (critical internal voice) comes up with a battery or reasons why we should not attempt to do anything out of the ordinary, not break out of the habituated state of being (go to the gym, eat less, nag less, complain less, exercise more) that we're used to. Subconscious mind will pick up all of our weaknesses, which it knows and FOSTERS, and hurl them at us one by one!

We create worst-case scenarios in our minds so that we don't have to rise above those familiar feelings. Because when we try to break the internal CHEMICAL order we have made so second nature, the body goes into chaos. Its internal badgering feels nearly irresistible - and plenty of times, we succumb."

So, what has God given us to fix this?  EFT!

Remember EFT is not a substitute for your own personal physician's medical care, so take to phone/visit him as necessary before tapping.

Wiring Your Emotional Brain

"What most people don't know is that when they think about a highly charged emotional experience, they make the brain fire in the exact sequences and patterns as before; they are firing and wiring their brains to the PAST by reinforcing those circuits into ever more hardwired networks. They also duplicate the same chemicals in the brain and body (in varying degrees) as if they were experiencing the event AGAIN in the moment. Those chemicals begin to train the body to further memorize THAT emotion. Both the chemical results of thinking and feeling, feeling and thinking, as well as the neurons firing and wiring together, condition the mind AND the body into a finite set of automatic programs." Dr. Joe Dispenza

Tapping can often disassemble that wiring for the good.

God has given us an awesome tool in EFT!

EFT & Wellness

Dr. Candace B. Pert, Ph.D., Everything You Need to Know to Feel Go(o)d, Hay House, Inc., Carlsbad, California, 2006, page 35. Dr. Pert writes:

"'This psychosomatic network requires a new way of thinking about physiology in order to be understood.  In the reigning-paradigm mind-set, the term psychosomatic is used pejoratively, as if symptoms that are psychosomatic are false and don't deserve attention or treatment. After all, they can't be 'real,' because they're all in your mind!

"But in the new view of medicine and wellness, a psychosomatic state is the basis for a fresh approach to healing disease; for feeling well emotionally; and for creating a different, more desirable reality. Yes, your symptoms are in your body, but they are also always in your mind, either consciously or subconsciously. Mind and body are not split in two, so what happens in one occurs in the other, too.  This is the fundamental tenet of what I call the new-paradigm physiology.'"

Rene Descartes (1596-1650) began this dualistic split between spirit and body in the 16th century. Up until that time the Church frowned upon scientists probing the body to find its "secrets". It was pretty much simply forbidden. Because he was a mathematician & scientist, he looked at everything in those terms. Mathematics defined the entire physical world. The physical could be seen, but the mental (emotional & spiritual) could not, and Descartes separated them into two completely different realms. In his mind, neither one had anything to do with the other. If the mental, meaning spiritual, can't be measure then it all fell outside the walls of the scientific castle. It was left to the priests to decide. Scientists wouldn't touch it.

This all worked well for a couple of centuries, as it kept the scientists out of prison for meddling in spiritual affairs of the mind. It also has given us today a very mechanical sort of medicine. Take a pill and all will be well. Most physicians aren't taught, nor have, or take the time today to ask a patient what is going on in their lives, meaning emotionally or spiritually. Thus, we still are suffering the effects of Descartes' philosophy.  It's doesn't seem to be serving us too well anymore.

Illness is more than just a mechanistic breakdown of the body. And the paragraph above from Dr. Pert shows, there is a new approach to medicine. Much more is happening than meets the physical eye. Our emotions and spiritual state do impact our health.  In fact, they probably impact us more than we could ever rightly imagine.

As this new approach and the new scientific evidence continues to mount, it is time we all begin to reexamine our health in light of these new, or resurrected, ideas. Spirit was once part of medicine, back centuries, when the whole man was treated. Unfortunately, centuries ago we didn't have antibiotics or surgery to help heal, as we do now.

Many of the complementary "energy medicine" modalities of today are beginning to reconnect these 2 realms. If the emotional health impacts physical health, why not use both to treat disease? Why not explore & "pull out" any negative emotional events, and then treat what is left of the disease with modern medicine? Sometimes, negative emotional events can also be associated with some spiritual issue, too, like unforgiveness or unconfessed sin. Illness is the effect of sin in our world. Because EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) does ease many physical symptoms because those same symptoms are rooted in emotional/spiritual events of the past, maybe time has come to consider using it in addition to conventional medical treatment?
